More than one
Hi, I’m Athena, and this is my new collection, More Than One. This body of work came from allowing myself to be brave — to show the two artists within me: the more photo-driven, realistic side, and the more expressive, intuitive one.
For a long time they felt separate. But in this collection, I allowed those worlds to exist together — in cohesion and in contradiction.
On a deeper level, the work explores identity and transformation — the different facets of self and empowerment.

Athena Anastasiou is the Art Director of Sol Veritas Studios and a multidisciplinary artist creating large-scale oil paintings that move between realism and abstraction, integrating textile weaving as both material and metaphor to explore identity, transformation, and our relationship with nature.
Athena is based between London and Bali. She graduated from Central Saint Martins with a BA in Fine Art (Painting) and continued her studies at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and the New York Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited internationally in both group and solo exhibitions in London and New York, including selection for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. She was named one of Saatchi Art’s Top 100 Women Artists and featured in 100 Artists, and has been profiled in The Guardian, Evening Standard, Architectural Digest, Marie Claire Arabia, and Harper’s Bazaar Interiors.

The Reveal

This piece came from thinking about the different aspects of myself and the archetypes we can step into. I started to see goddesses as one of those, and Athena has always been an archetype I’ve looked up to—a quiet symbol of strength for me.
I became really drawn to grayscale sculpture and I wanted to create a self-portrait that felt almost carved—stoic, still, and grounded—like stepping into that energy, while the foliage softens her, keeping her rooted in something more natural and connected.
It feels like a moment of seeing myself in that space—somewhere between who I am and the archetype I’m growing into.

I approached it as a large-scale drawing, an extension of earlier works on paper. It came from a real yearning to work from life—away from photography—and to create a more dimensional, expressive language within a limited colour palette. The piece holds that immediacy, where the weave becomes a surface that moves like paint—loose, intuitive, and alive.

I Let Go Of Getting It Right

This is a painting about learning to be—perhaps the most precious gift we have. In that space, rather than striving, we allow what we desire to arrive in its own time.
I was doing everything “right,” yet feeling increasingly distant from what I truly wanted. This work is deeply personal, rooted in my experience of trying to conceive, and the shift from doing to allowing.
The lower half of the painting becomes a quiet manifestation—myself pregnant alongside my two girls—held in a more expressive, fluid language. It’s also where these two styles meet, alongside the meeting of intention and surrender.The vision is there, but so is the letting go—
A reminder that you can hold what you desire and, at the same time, release it. In that balance, there is space to simply be.
